Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Combined Higher Secondary Level (SSC CHSL) (10+2) 12th Based exam annually throughout the nation. Examination Pattern:
➤ The examination will include Computer Based Examination (Tier-1), Descriptive Paper (Tier-2), and Skill Test / Typing Test (Tier-III).
➤ In question papers, wherever necessary, metric systems of weight and measurement will be used.
➤ The dates of examinations indicated in the notice are provisional. Any change in the schedule of examinations will be communicated to the candidates only through the website of the Commission.
➤ There will be no provision for re-evaluation/re-examination in the examination. No correspondence will be entertained in this regard.
- Tier-I Examination will consist of objective type, multiple-choice questions. Questions will be set in both English and Hindi for Part-II, III, and IV.
- There will be a negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer. Therefore, candidates are advised to keep this in mind while answering the questions.
- The marks scored by the candidates in the Computer Based Examination shall be normalized using the formula published by the Commission Notice Notice No: 1-1 / 2018-P & PI dated 07-02-2019 and the use of such generalized marks Will be done. Determine final qualification and cut-off marks.
- The Tentative Answer Key for the Computer Based Examination will be placed on the Commission’s website after the examination.
- Candidates can go through the answer key and submit the online representation on payment of Rs 100 / – per question, within the time limit given by the Commission.
- At the time of uploading the answer key, any representation about the answer key received through the online modality within the time frame set by the commission will be examined before finalizing the answer key and the decision of the commission in this regard will be final. Representative on the case obtained through any other modalities e.g. Letters, applications, emails, etc. will not be entertained.

Indicative Syllabus for Computer Based Examination (Tier-I):
✤ English Language: Spot the Error, Fill in the blanks, Synonyms / Homonyms, One Word substitution, Antonyms, conversion to direct/indirect statement, Spellings / Detection of misspelled words, idioms and phrases, sentence correction, active/passive voice of verbs, shuffling of sentence parts, shuffling of sentences in a passage, close passage, comprehension passage.
✤ General Intelligence: This will include both oral and nonverbal questions. The test will also include questions related to India and its neighboring countries, specifically related to history, culture, geography, economic scene, general policy, and scientific research.
Indicative Syllabus for Tier-II (Descriptive Paper):
✤ Tier-II Paper will be a descriptive paper of 100 marks in T Pen and Paper ‘mode. The duration of the descriptive paper will be for one hour (20 minutes compensatory time will also be provided to the eligible candidates as given in paras 8.1 and 8.2 above). The paper will include writing essays / papers / applications / processes etc.
✤ The minimum qualifying marks in Tier-2 will be 33 percent.
✤ The paper has to be written in Hindi or English. Part paper in Hindi and Part in English will be awarded zero marks.
✤ Candidates will have to write their correct roll number at the designated places on the cover page of the answer book. Candidates will also have to mark the signature and lefthand thumb impression in the relevant column in the answer sheet. Answer numbers that do not affect roll number, signature and left-hand thumb impression will be awarded zero marks.
✤ Candidates shall not write any personal identification. Name, roll number, mobile number, address, etc. inside the answer book. Candidates failing to follow these instructions will be awarded zero marks even if they are awarded marks during the evaluation process.
Indicative Syllabus for Tier-III (Skill Test / Typing Test):
✤ Skill test/typing test for the shortlisted candidates will be conducted on a computer provided by the Commission or its authorized agency.
✤ The skill test/typing test will be conducted in the cities where the regional offices of the Commission are located or decided by the Commission.
✤ The skill test/typing test will be of a qualifying nature.
✤ Errors in the skill test will be calculated to 2 decimal places.

Skill Test for Data Entry Operator:
☛ Candidates need to show 8000 depressions per hour to clear this test for the post of Data Entry Operator. This nature will become worthy.
☛ The skills test will be taken on a computer. The notification will be notified to the examination center and the concerned agency. Candidates will have to check the official website for more details.
Only applicants who have the minimum required speed will be recommended for the merit list.
☛ The data entry hour parameter in the office fee of the Comptroller and Auditor General (C and AG) will be determined based on the correct entry of words/key depressions according to the given passage of 15000 key depressions hour.
Typing Test for LCD/JSA and Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant:
☛ Candidates will have the option to type in Hindi or English. This exam will be qualified in nature.
☛ The speed of 10500 key depressions per hour will be determined based on the correct entry of words/key pressures as per the given passage.
☛ This will be a computer-based test to check the speed and accuracy of the candidate. Applicants will have to type the given text paragraph within 10 minutes of the time.
